Blyth Bank House was built in 1905, the architect was G. Val Myer, who later designed Broadcasting House. It was a perfect example of the Arts and Crafts style of the period. (See image from 1914)
It underwent significant modernisation in the late ‘70s, when the outside was rendered and all the Arts and Crafts features were hidden, both inside and out. It was fully furnished in its current style in around 1980 and has not changed since then - all the carpets and curtains are from that period. The only area that has been modernised since then is the kitchen, which was done in the late ‘90s, and there are quite recent radiators in the sitting room, hall and one bedroom.
There are three large reception rooms; hall, sitting room and dining room, which have Edwardian and Victorian mahogany furniture, on the first floor there are four bedrooms, one of which has had some work done. The light switches vary, some are recent. The outside is pretty run down and we leave the lawn as a wildflower area in summer. It could be mowed, but this would have to be done in early spring.
